Fireworks blamed for fire damage to Kansas home

HUTCHINSON –Fireworks are being blamed for a Tuesday night fire at a home in Hutchinson.

Officials reported Hutchinson Fire crews responded just before 9 p.m. to the 200 block of East 17th for a structure fire.

When they arrived, they found some shrubs and bushes on fire next to the house.

The fire charred the siding and a window, but onlookers had mostly extinguished the fire before crews arrived.

The fire was controlled in 5 minutes with units on scene for approximately 20 minutes doing overhaul of the fire area.

Preliminary damage is estimated at $2,000. Damage was sustained to the exterior siding and window area.

The cause of the fire appears to be fireworks that got into the bushes and shrubs.

Two adults and one child were in the residence at the time of the fire. No one was injured.
