Police make drug arrest after chase, fight with officer

GREAT BEND -A man who was first reported to be staying at Great Bend motel for free, ended up being arrested Wednesday on narcotics charges.

According to the Great Bend Police Department, just before 9 a.m. Wednesday, officers were dispatched to the Highland Hotel in reference to a subject who was trespassing. Upon arrival, officers were informed that a man had been staying in the hotel without paying for his room.

When officers inspected the room, they found Eugene Black.

While trying to flee the scene, Black struck an officer and escaped on foot.

He was later captured and arrested behind the Great Bend Events Center. During the arrest it was discovered that Black was in possession of illegal narcotics.

Black was transported to the Barton County jail and charged with possession of drugs with the intent to sell, possession of drugs, battery on a law enforcement officer, trespassing, obstruction, criminal trespass, and possession of stolen property. Bond was set at $100,000.00.
