Allen LaVerne ‘Toad’ Harvey

Allen LaVerne “Toad” Harvey passed away Wednesday the 8th of July, 2015 at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital, WaKeeney. He was born August 7, 1930, in Hugoton, to Isaac and Eunice (Hawk) Harvey.

He was a 1948 graduate of Utica High School. He went on to serve our country in the United States Navy. On August 23, 1953, Allen was united in marriage to Norma Phillips, in Utica. After his service in the US Navy, he became an engineer for Haliburton Oil Company and others. Upon leaving the oil companies, he purchased a lodge in Buffalo, Wyoming, named “The Pines” and he owned this for years. They sold “The Pines” and moved to WaKeeney and have lived here since. Known to many in WaKeeney as “the walker”, he loved to walk in the mornings.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eunice and Isaac Harvey; sister MaryEtta; brothers Larry and Fred. He is survived by his wife, Norma; three sisters, Phyllis Mendenhall of Muskogee Oklahoma, Letha Babcock of Utica, Wanda and husband Jerry of Pueblo West, Colorado; and one brother, Calvin of Ransom. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Memorial service and inurnment will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery, WaKeeney, with Pastor Bob Clemence officiating. There will be no visitation as cremation was chosen.
