The Hays Monarchs 18U American Legion baseball team rallied with seven runs in the final three innings to beat Dodge City 7-4 in game one of their doubleheader in Dodge City Thursday night. The Monarchs take the nightcap 4-1 ads they improve to 18-6 on the season.
The Monarchs scored four runs in the fifth inning to tie the first game 4-4. Justin Pfeifer’s two-run single in the sixth gave them the lead for good.
Cameron Brin pitched two innings of relief for the win and Braiden Werth worked a 1-2-3 seventh for the save.
The Monarchs scored single runs in the second, third, fifth and seventh to build a 4-0 lead in the second game.
Chase Romme went 3-for-3.
Liam Stults pitched six scoreless innings for the win.
The Monarchs are off until July 15th when they travel to Pratt for a doubleheader.
