LOGAN — What little town hosts a great big fair? Logan: a farming community of 600. Nestled in northwest Kansas, on Highway 9, The Dane G. Hansen Museum sponsors one of the best craft fairs around on Saturday, August 15, 2015. Hosting crafters from Kansas and surrounding states, this is a shopper’s paradise. Family and friends rally together for this annual event held on the Hansen Plaza Square, Main Street, Logan. There is no admission charge to attend this event.

Crafters check in at pre-dawn in preparation for the 9:00 am opening. Food vendors line two sides of the Square. Food may include hamburgers, brauts, chicken and noodles, homemade pies, pulled pork sandwiches, bierocks, sno-cones, and more. If you start the day hungry, you won’t be for long.

Chain saw artist, Blair Smith from Iowa, will be on the grounds to astound you with his chain saw artistry. His performances will begin at 8am and continue throughout the day with him completing several projects. Drawings at 10:45 and 1:15 will be held for two of his carvings.
Children can enjoy supervised games at 10am. A Hula Hoop contest (ages 7-12); Tricycle races (ages 3-6). Please bring your own tricycle. A water balloon toss will also be among the games for the kids to enjoy while the parents shop. There will be inflatable fun for kids from 10am -3pm.

Be sure to head to the Kid’s Tent from 1-2pm for face painting by the LHS Cheerleaders and free helium balloons.

Come and step inside the museum and look at our exhibit, “Blending the Old & the New: Quilts by Paul D. Pilgrim.” Quilt blocks from the 19th and 20th centuries are found in the fascinating quilts of this exhibit.
Also, don’t forget to look at our artist of the month which will have items for sale in the museum gallery. Come in cool off and take a look around.

Live entertainment will be on 2 stages throughout the day for your listening pleasure. Mark Nebel from Smith Center, KS, will be on the South stage at 10am, 12pm, and 2pm. A Little Bit of Heaven from Alma, NE will be on the North stage at 11am and 1:15 pm.

In addition to the live entertainment, we will also have several Artisan presentations around the Plaza. We will have the Deer Creek Regulators fast draw shooting from 9am – 3pm; Janie Lowry will be doing a demo on “Fun with Gift Bags & Boxes,” in the community room at 10:30am & 12:30pm. Also, there will be “Fleece to Fabric” by Area Weavers & Spinners and The Shepherd’s Mill from 9am – 3pm, Brian Bethke – Black Smith from Larned, KS (originally from Stuttgart, Ks) from 9am – 3pm, and painting by Sandy Seamone & T.R. Mathews, “Bob Ross Certified Painting Instructors,” from 9am – 3pm.

Bob Jones, antiques appraiser from Jennings, Kansas, will be available in the Community Room of Hansen Plaza for a free verbal approximation of value for your antiques from 9– 12 and 1 – 3. Registration forms to schedule a time for the appraisal are available through the Hansen Museum.

Don’t forget to purchase or renew your Museum membership to automatically get your name in the drawing for the $500.00 Purchase Prize drawings held at 10:45 and 1:15. Stick around….You must be present to win.

The highlight of the day will be the selection of 12 new winners (and two alternates) of the coveted “Artist of the Month” award. This year’s crafters will be judged for their uniqueness, quality of craft, and display. Winners will be presented with ribbons and certificates prior to the public announcement and photos at 2:30.
