Kansas teen hospitalized after pool accident

SALINA – A rural Saline County teen was taken to the hospital late Monday afternoon following a near drowning.

Saline County Sheriff’s deputies responded just before 6 p.m. to the 800 block of East Frisbie Way according to Sheriff Glen Kochanowski.

They found EMS crews administrating aid to 18-year-old old Zachary Upshaw.

He and Matthew Upshaw had been cleaning the pool. Mathew went inside the home for a few minutes and when he returned he found Zachary in the pool face down.

He pulled Zachary from the pool. He was not breathing. He began to administer CPR and called for assistance.

Zachary began breathing, was taken to Salina Regional Health Center and admitted for observation.

It is not known how long Upshaw had been in the pool. Additional details on his condition have not been made available.
An investigation into the accident continues according to the sheriff.
