PLAINVILLE — The man arrested in connection with a June shooting at a Plainville convenience store has been extradited back to Rooks County and arraigned, according to the Plainville Police Department.

Hunter Bishop, suspect in the shooting and attempted robbery of Michael Downing, Plainville Short Stop clerk, was extradited from Searcy, Ark., Thursday and appeared for arraignment in District Court in Stockton on Friday. He requested an attorney, and Paul Oller was appointed as his attorney.

During the incident, police said Downing reached for the gun and was shot in the right hip. Downing, 40, was taken to Rooks County Health Center by Plainville EMS. The Plainville Police Department reported he was released a few days later.

Bishop was charged with Level 4 aggravated battery and Level 5 attempted aggravated robbery.
Bond was set at $100,000, with bond conditions he will appear in court at all times required, shall have no contact with Downing, and shall maintain contact with his attorney at all times, as well as not possess or consume illegal drugs or alcohol while on bond.

He remains in Rooks County jail in lieu of bond.

The hearing date is set for 9 a.m. July 30 in the Stockton District Court.
