An 18-year-old Hays man was arrested after allegedly leading police on a chase through Hays Thursday night and into Friday morning.

According to Lt. Brandon Wright of Hays Police Department, just before midnight Friday an officer observed a motorcycle driving recklessly in the 800 block of Vine, and the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

The motorcyclist allegedly fled from the officer traveling southbound on Vine, turned east on Old U.S. 40 40 Bypass and then north on Canterbury. The motorcycle turned westbound on 15th Street into a residential area, and shortly thereafter the officer lost sight of the motorcycle. According to Wright, the pursuit lasted approximately 3 minutes.

At approximately 1:30 a.m. Friday, the Ellis County Communication Center received an anonymous tip that, according to Wright, identified the driver as Seth J. Werner, 18, Hays.

Officers were able to locate Werner and, Wright said, verified he was the suspect from the pursuit.

Werner was arrested on suspicion of felony fleeing and eluding and a list of traffic violations, which will include reckless driving, disobeying a traffic signal, and multiple stop sign and lane movement violations.
