Unemployment in Ellis County remained flat for the third straight month in June, according to information from the Kansas Department of Labor.

The jobless rate in Ellis County remained at 3.3 percent. Most of northwest Kansas reported unemployment below 4 percent, with the exception of Rush, Graham, Rooks, Osborne and Smith counties.

Greeley County’s 2.4 percent was the lowest in northwest Kansas.

The state’s June seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.5 percent, up from 4.4 percent in May and unchanged from June 2014.

Seasonally adjusted figures show Kansas gained 12,300 private sector jobs since last year, or 1.1 percent.

“June was an excellent month for the private sector with a gain of 4,300 seasonally adjusted jobs. The last time the state added more than 4,000 jobs in June was in 1994,” said Lana Gordon, Secretary of Labor.

The July labor report is scheduled to be released Aug. 21. Click the map above for a county-by-county breakdown of unemployment rates.
