KDOT truck hit, damaged in Kansas work zone crash

TOPEKA – The Kansas Department of Transportation issued a reminder to drivers following an accident just after 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday in Shawnee County.

Officials reported a KDOT dump truck complete with the yellow and black striped crash attenuator and arrow board was hit and damaged by a tow truck in a project on westbound Interstate 470 near the U.S. 75 interchange just south of Topeka.

The KDOT dump truck was stationed on the highway to help direct traffic to move over to the next lane via a lighted arrow board located above the attenuator.

KDOT maintenance crews were completing pavement repairs on this stretch of the highway at the time of the accident.

Fortunately, no one was injured in this work zone crash.

The KDOT is in the midst of orange barrel season and are bringing workers to the state highways each day.
