Police report another Kan. victim of bail-bond scam

SALINA -For the second time in about a month a person bonded out of jail in Saline County became the victim of a bail bond scam.

Police Captain Mike Sweeney said a 21-year-old Salina man who had been arrested in mid-July on a DUI charge, was bonded out of jail with the services of Midwest Bonding.

On Sunday afternoon, the man received a call from a phone number in Oakland, California.

The called said they were with the bonding company and an additional $600 was required or a warrant for arrest would be issued.

A couple of hours later the victim received another phone call and is told for an additional $300 the charges would be dropped. The victim sent the money.

On Monday, the victim received another phone call asking him to wire an additional $229.95 to finish up the paperwork.

Later, Midwest Bonding called the victim to explain he has been a victim of a scam. His loss is $1,164.95.

In June, a 22-year-old Salina woman was a victim of a similar scam after a DUI arrest. She lost $600.
