SALINA – Law enforcement officials in Salina were called to Federal Express Tuesday evening after an elderly woman brought in a package that contained a check that is believed to be part of a scam.

Salina police Sgt. James Feldman said the woman told officers she had been hired to drop off the package at Federal Express, 3450 Centennial Road.

Feldman said Federal Express had been alerted to look for suspicious packages that are part of a scam from a company in Nigeria.

The check was made out for the amount of $1,980.

The package is similar to packages that also contained bogus checks being received in Hays, according to police.
