Kansas man faces criminal restraint, drug charges

HUTCHINSON – Despite facing numerous charges in Reno County, a Kansas man managed to get his bond lowered while making a first appearance in court on Thursday.

The Reno County Sheriff said deputies were called to the west side of Cheney Lake on Tuesday evening for a report of a disturbance.

Allegedly, Charles Lynn Gray, 47, Wichita, had picked up a woman in Wichita and drove to the lake.

The woman alleges that she became uncomfortable with Gray because he was using drugs.

Authorities say she told them she lost consciousness and when she woke up, she didn’t know where she was.

According to Reno County Sheriff Captain Darrian Campbell, Gray wouldn’t let the woman use her cell phone.

According to statements made in court, Gray threw her cell phone out the window of the vehicle and would not let her call her mother.

He also reportedly would not take her anywhere and eventually drove away and left her

The victim was ultimately able to get to someone who had a phone and called for help.

When deputies arrived, they were able to make contact with the alleged victim and found Gray.

During a search of Gray’s vehicle, deputies allegedly found drugs including some considered to be a seller’s quantity.

The alleged victim was transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Charges against Gray include criminal restraint, distribution of drugs, and possession of drugs, no tax stamp and personal use drug paraphernalia.

Gray is due back in court on July 30.
