TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — A national racing body says it will go ahead with plans to host multi-state events at Topeka’s embattled Heartland Park car racing track, even though operation of the track remains unresolved.
Heartland Park has been closed since the National Hot Rod Association put on the Mello Yello Racing Series Kansas Nationals in May. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports the NHRA has announced it will go ahead with plans for drag racing events at the track in August and September.
The track’s future has been in question since last season. Prospects became even dimmer this year when the Topeka City Council rejected a plan to purchase Jayhawk Racing LLC’s interest in the track.
NHRA official Rob Park says he’s confident the track has a future despite its current uncertainties.
