DETROIT (AP) — Fiat Chrysler has agreed to a buyback plan that involves Ram pickup trucks that have defective steering parts that can cause vehicles to lose control.
Included in the buyback are more than a million older Jeeps that have vulnerable rear-mounted gas tanks. Owners will be able to trade in their vehicles for the purchase price, minus depreciation, or have Chrysler pay to have them repaired.
Fiat Chrysler also faces a record civil fine of up to $105 million. Fiat Chrysler has settled with safety regulators in about two dozen recalls.
