HUTCHINSON – Officials in Reno County continue to investigate over 70 cases of Whooping Cough
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment reported 41 confirmed or probable cases in the Reno County since July 18.
The disease is highly contagious and resides in the mucus of the nose and throat of an infected person.
The Health Department, KDHE and school officials are working together on the investigation and to to have vaccination clinics set up for Buhler, Haven and Nickerson districts when school begins.
Health officials ask that you make sure your family’s vaccinations are up-to-date. Protections against Pertussis from the childhood vaccine “Dtap” decreases over time.
Older children and adults, including pregnant women should get a pertussis booster shot called “TDap” to protect themselves and infants near or around them.
