Kan. bike rider hospitalized after hit and run accident

SALINA -The Salina Police Department is investigating a hit and run incident that occurred late Tuesday afternoon.

According to Police Capt. Mike Sweeney, emergency crews were dispatched to the 400 block of South 9th Street just after 4p.m. on a report of a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered that Pancho Carrasco, 63, Salina, had actually been struck while riding his bicycle.

Carrasco, who was riding northbound on 9th Street, had a string trimmer across his handlebars, which extended several feet on either side of the bicycle.

An unknown black pickup truck is believed to have bumped the string trimmer, causing Carrasco to lose control and wreck his bicycle.

The truck continued northbound without stopping.

Carrasco fell to the pavement and received assorted minor injuries, including abrasions and contusions.

He was transported by ambulance to the Salina Regional Health Center as a precautionary measure.
