Enrollment for Hays Middle School began Thursday, but a crashed online enrollment system forced parents to go directly to schools to enroll.

At 11 a.m. Thursday, the Roosevelt Elementary School computer lab was filled with parents and kids enrolling on computers on site.

“Right now, our enrollment system online is down, so in order to enroll, the parents will have to go to the school they want to enroll at,” said Brittany Baldwin, computer lab supervisor at Roosevelt.

Adding to the problems Thursday, the air conditioner at Roosevelt was down, but fans were moving air throughout the building and doors and windows were open, keeping the temperature warm but manageable.

Despite today’s issues, Baldwin said parents have been understanding as they are coming to enroll.

“Everybody’s been really nice,” she said.

UPDATE: As of Thursday afternoon, district officials were advising that parents could call in to get the required access codes to register online.

“If parents in the middle or elementary schools would like to enroll at home online, they can call into their school and get a needed snapcode,” said Amy Veatch, student software systems administrator. “We are hoping to have that issue resolved this evening and if that is the case, the note on powerschoolhays.com will be gone and parents can do as directed by logging into PowerSchool and clicking on the InfoSnap Student Registration.”
