Former Hays teen charged in March homicide enters insanity plea

A 17-year-old girl formerly of Hays and accused in the March homicides of her mother and stepfather pleaded not guilty last month by reason of insanity.

Ashlee Martinson, is accused of killing her stepfather and mother, Jennifer Ayers, also a former Hays resident. She entered the plea June 29 in Oneida County District Court in Rhinelander, Wis.

Jennifer Ayers was a 1992 graduate of Hays High School who earned her bachelor’s degree at Fort Hays State University.

Martinson’s next court date is scheduled for Sept. 28.
