Hays Ambassador Hotel and Conference Center – Hays

Follow up inspection – Business still under administrative review. The pool area remains closed and the location was cited for nine violations in five categories of the inspection. Follow up will be set at a later time for both the establishment in general and the pool area.

Facility structurally sound with repairs and maintenance to ensure safety.

Repairs and construction conducted to ensure guest safety

1. The second floor, south hallway Laundry room (used for a staging area for soiled linens collection) found with the door not fully closed and secured from entry by patrons of any age. Lights were out and at west end of room, when looking to the right is and open laundry chute where clothing items are dropped down to the first level of the building into the laundry washing area.

2. Metal steps leading to the top of a water slide has a hose extended to the top of the slide and poses a threat to tripping when scaling up or down, as the hose at one level of a step is protruding out with potential for foot entanglement. Correction for this was made by pulling the hose from the steps by the manager.

Exterior areas including playgrounds and storage areas clean and good repair.

Walking areas illuminated and in good repair

1. Metal drain pipe covering panel on the south exterior hallway concrete walkway is bowing up in the center with potential for tripping.

Guards and railing in good repair

2. Metal fence railing under the water slide in the pool area with one severed bottom portion post with rusty and sharp edges.

Facility properly designed, maintained sanitary and safe

Enclosure durable and in good repair

1. One of four gates located at the south end of the pool area and near the hot tub does not close properly. It was in an open position. A test, with slightly applied pressure to the gate will open. Repeated tests with gate returning to the frame, it would not close and remain shut. Pool area is closed pending correction and a time for reinspection, to be determined.

Operation & maintenance procedures met

Logs maintained for one year

Logs for pool not available and manager said she is unable to locate them. She acknowledged they are using the form we have provided them for that.

Electrical properly installed and maintained

Installed/maintained

1. Exterior push release button to the south east corner of the building not hooked up for use.

Junctures and boxes covered

1. Electrical wall outlet on wall next to the south gate entrance to the hot tub/pool area with no plate cover.

Bare/frayed wires prohibited

Upper bricked wall has a junction box with exposed wiring not closed off with secure plate.

Extension cord requirements and permanent extension cords prohibited

1. One extension cord feeding off a second extension cord plugged into an interior hallway socket is leading to the outdoors where a staff person is using an edge trimmer. The cord is under pressure stress from the exterior door pressing on the cord and the potential for electrical shock if severed or coming into contact with water if contact is made with the metal and glass door. Correction is being made, as manager said with having no exterior plug-in available in that area, is directing staff to secure and use a gas-powered edger.
