While on sabbatical, Toby Flores, Fort Hays State University associate professor of art and design and a sculpture artist, traveled to galleries and museums filling his sketchbook with drawings in preparation for his “Nobody Told Me” exhibition, which is coming to an end with a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, in the Moss-Thorns Gallery of Art, Rarick Hall, room 102, on the FHSU campus.Nobody Told Me

“At times, my work can be humorous and lighthearted, but this body of work comes from a different place and reflects my passion for iron, steel and the tools that shape them,” said Flores.
Flores’ exhibition is at Moss-Thorns Gallery from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday now and until Friday, Oct. 23.

“Toby’s latest work is sabbatical domination,” said Danielle Robinson, an MFA ceramics graduate. “It is culmination of forging and foundry work. Toby’s sense of humor is depicted is his abstract sculptures, and his visual influences are evident. The evolution of his art is rapturously exhibited in his show.”

Flores earned a Master of Fine Arts in sculpture from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, in 2003. He began teaching sculpture at FHSU in 2006.
