HAYS, Kan. – Randall Smith hit a 3-pointer with 14 seconds to play to break an 82-all tie as Washburn rallies from an 11-point second half deficit to beat Fort Hays State 86-82 Wednesday at Gross Coliseum. The Ichabods shot 64-percent in the second half and 57-percent for the game as they improve to 5-1. The Tigers, who played the final 19 minutes without senior point guard Craig Nicholson who suffered a foot injury trying to draw a charge under the basket, falls to 5-1.

The Tigers, who hit 11 three-pointers, led by 11 with 14:06 to play but the Ichabods used a 24-9 run to go up four with just over five minutes to play. A Kyler Kinnamon three-point play keyed a 5-0 which gave the Tigers a one-point lead. Dom Samac hit two free throws with three minutes to play to put FHSU up 76-75 lead but Washburn scored the next four and would never trailed again.
The game saw 64 combined free throws 47 fouls.
Rob Davis led FHSU with 24 points. Kinnamon added 18 while Dom Samac and Nicholson both added 12.
Washburn was led by Cameron Wiggins who scored 21.
