WAKEENEY — Area law enforcement authorities are on the lookout for two suspects who allegedly robbed a convenience store in WaKeeney.

According to WaKeeney Police Chief Terry Eberle, a pair of individuals entered the Jay Bros Convenience Store at 704 S. 13th in Wakeeney, just before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday through a boarded-up window.

While inside, the suspects stole approximately $4,000, according to Eberle. The cash drawer that was taken was later recovered north of Riga.

Authorities are also investigating a pickup fire in the 900 block of Buckeye Road in Ellis County that occurred Wednesday night. According to Ellis County Undersheriff Bruce Hertel, they believe the arson of the vehicle and the robbery in WaKeeney are connected.

Eberle said a white four-door pickup, stolen out of Utah, was spotted on surveillance footage from the robbery.

A semi was also reported stolen Wednesday night from the 1200 block of Buckeye Road. Authorities believe the two robbery suspects could be connected to the semi theft.

The WaKeeney Police Department and the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office are investigating all three incidents.
