NICODEMUS–The Park is one of 26 other parks that were awarded the 2015 Director’s Partnership Award in recognition of their achievements as part of the Department of Energy Clean Cities National Parks Initiative. The Clean Cities program was implemented in 2010 to ensure America’s energy security while protecting the environment.
Nicodemus worked with the National Park Service (NPS) to reduce fuel consumption, increase use of alternative fuels and technologies, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and increase outreach to staff, partners and visitors.

As of 2014, every car, truck, mower and piece of lawn equipment on the site is powered by alternative fuels – propane, electricity or by hybrid-electric dive systems. In going green Nicodemus answered and supported both the “Go Green” and the “Green Our Rides” goals of the NPS Green Parks Plan.
