ELLIS — After a little over a month of opening its second annual “Giving Back to Ellis” campaign, the Community Foundation of Ellis reported Tuesday the foundation has raised $37,000. The foundation’s goal is $53,000.

Grant gifts include $10,000 from the Hansen Foundation with Sizewise/Wheelchairs of Kansas matching the Hansen’s $10,000 totaling $20,000. Heartland Foundation has awarded a $4,500 grant and Midwest Energy $1,000; total grants $25,500. Other money gifts from the community have totaled over $12,000.

“We want the public to know that the community is supporting our project and the community’s dream of a new Ellis Food Pantry relocation,” the foundation said in a news release. “Currently, the pantry is located in the basement of the Railroad Museum.  Funding is still needed to relocate up on the north hill to a building that will be handicapped and elderly accessible with the need for more efficient operation and offerings.

“Keeping your dollars in Ellis is making a difference in our community. The Foundation the past year has started two new food programs, weekend food packets for students and the Food4Kids Summer Program: Food that is in when school is out.  This season, you have a great opportunity to continue to make a difference in the community of Ellis. There is still time for the Foundation to receive your 2015 tax deductible gift.”

Donations can be sent to the Community Foundation, 820 Washington, Ellis, KS, or visit www.ellisfoundation.net.
