City commissioners are expected to approve a contract tonight with CDM Smith, Wichita, for Phase 1 Design-Build services at the wastewater treatment facility. The contract price is not to exceed $1,876,611.  The funding would come from the city’s SRF loan for the project from the Kansas Department of Health & Environment.

The city must make upgrades to the aging wastewater treatment plant–estimated to cost $30 million–in order to comply with stricter effluent emission standards set by state and federal environmental agencies.

The commission will also consider approving a $13,830 professional service agreement with  the city’s airport engineer, Burns and McDonnell, in connection with acquiring new snow and ice removal equipment at the airport.

In other business, Sister Cities Advisory Board member Max Maximov will make a presentation about his trip to Paraguay and mayoral appointments will be approved to the Northwest Kansas Community Corrections Board and Hays Convention and Visitors Bureau Advisory Committee.  Cereal malt beverage licenses for a number of businesses will be renewed for 2016.

Tonight’s meeting starts at 6:30 pm. in Hays City Hall, 1507 Main.
