A winter storm watch is in effect in northwest Kansas this weekend, according to the National Weather Service, as a Saturday evening front is expected to bring snow and strong winds to the area.
The NWS said the heaviest snow is expected to fall late Saturday evening and through the day Sunday, with accumulation of between 3 to 7 inches predicted.
The wind will average 20 to 30 mph beginning Sunday morning, with gusts up to 40 mph. Both the wind and snow will die off by Sunday evening, NWS forecasters said.
The combination of snow and wind should make for dangerous travel at times, with visibility being reduced in open areas.
