WAKEENEY–For the tenth year, Wreaths Across America will be placing holiday wreaths on veterans’ markers at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery in WaKeeney in remembrance of their brave sacrifice. It is a tradition originating in WaKeeney that has become a worldwide movement to honor our deceased veterans throughout our country and worldwide.

This annual event to memorialize our brave men and women of the military began through a volunteer initiative to replicate the wreath placement ceremony of Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.

WaKeeney’s event, the first of its kind, was featured in an industry magazine, garnering attention around the world and eventually sparking a movement that has grown to become a worldwide Christmas tradition to honor all deceased U.S. veterans during the holidays.

Along with the wreaths placed on grave sites, seven specially made wreaths donated by the same supplier of Arlington cemetery’s wreaths, will be laid out in recognition of each branch of the military. Morrill Worcester, president of Worcester Wreath Company, explained his desire to develop the Wreaths Across America project, “Our goal is to expand the recognition of those who serve our country, both past, present, and future, as well as their families who deserve our support. Without the sacrifices of our veterans, there would be no opportunity to enjoy the freedoms, the life we live today.”
