After a two-year search throughout the Chestnut Street District in Downtown Hays, Downtown Hays Development Corp. has found a new home. The new location will improve connections with downtown merchants as well as local and out of town patrons, provide an avenue to focus on development opportunities, and room for growth.
Beginning Feb. 1, the new location will be 109 E. 11th.
“DHDC, more than once, committed to the Hays city commissioners and our downtown merchants we would find a new office in downtown,” Sandy Jacobs, DHDC board president said. “After visiting with those merchants, we recognized how important finding a space off of Main Street was, leaving all of Main Street store fronts for retail.”
After approaching the primary developer in Downtown Hays, Liberty Group Inc., with the proposition of renting their building, DHDC was delighted with their proposal, the group said in a news release.
Liberty Group Inc. is aware of costs associated with an office relocation and, with that in mind, offered a one-year lease with six months free rent, furthering their collaboration with DHDC and their commitment to better downtown Hays.
“We were fortunate to find this space through Liberty Group Inc.,” DHDC Executive Director Sara Bloom said. “It has been a goal of DHDC’s for some time to find office space in downtown but finding something big enough and within our budget has been a challenge. What Liberty Group is offering to us is just that and we are grateful. It will allow us to be a better organization with the means to continue offering the many great events the community of Hays has come to love and expect.”
