Hays City Commissioners will conduct a joint meeting this evening with representatives of the Hays Recreation Commission who will review the HRC activities and events during 2015. Each year in December, the city commission and HRC board members meet to discuss the annual performance of the Hays Aquatic Park and Bickle-Schmidt Sports Complex.
The operating loss at the Hays Aquatic Park this year was $31,402.12, with the city’s portion half of that at $15,701.06.
The Bickle-Schmidt Sports Complex has turned a profit the past two years. The city’s operating contract with HRC, which expires at the end of 2017, does not provide for a split of operating revenues or losses. In discussion with Roger Bixenman, HRC Superintendent, it was determined the profits generated by the Sports Complex for 2015 will be used for capital needs at the complex.
Jeff Boyle, Director of Parks, will present information about restroom upgrades at the Fort Hays Municipal Golf Course Pro-shop as well as a bid award for a new golf cart storage shed. City staff is recommending replacement of the cart storage shed that caught fire September 13.
Other agenda items for tonight’s work session include an Airport Capital Improvement Plan update to be presented by Greg Sund, Director of Public Works.
The complete Dec. 17, 2015, agenda can be seen here.
Tonight’s work session begins at 6:30 p.m. in Hays City Hall, 1507 Main Street.
