LINDSBORG — Four Holy Family Chess players traveled to Lindsborg on Saturday and came away with a clean sweep, with all four players finishing in the top five.

The team consisted of Braydon Binder, Tate Dinkel, Jensen Brull and Noah Bruggeman. The boys started the day by earning all four available points in the first round. For the rest of the day, they continued to put distance between themselves and the eventual second place finisher, Concordia.

Even before the sixth and final round, the HFE players had enough of a lead to clinch the first place team trophy. However, they didn’t stop there.

At the end of the day, Dinkel finished in fifth place with four out of a possible six points. Bruggeman claimed the individaul third place trophy with five points. Binder finished in second place, also with five points, and Brull took top honors in the individual standings in the K-5 division with 5.5 points.

Brull’s nearly perfect record on the day was a personal best. His only half-point round was a result of a third-round draw with the eventual fourth place player from Concordia.
