Norton wins fourth straight 3-2-1A wrestling title

For the fourth year in-a-row the Norton Blue Jays are the champions of the 3-2-1A state wrestling tournament at Gross Coliseum in Hays.

Six of the eight Norton wrestlers placed in the tournament with three capturing an individual title.

HAYS – TMP-Marian’s Tucker Rhoades placed 6th at 132 pounds

TMP-Marian’s Tucker Rhoades finished his junior season with a 6th place finish at 132 pounds.

Ellis had two individual medal winners. Sophomore Bryce Younger finished runner-up at 120 pounds, losing to Hoxie’s Dayton Porsch in the finals.

At 145 pounds junior Dalton Hensley placed 5th with a 3-1 win over Trenton Wright.

Jared Plante finished runner-up at 285 pounds for the Plainville Cardinals.

Hill City’s Devin Owen was 6th at 126 pounds.

Hoxie’s Tristan Porsch was the runner-up at 138 pounds and Taye Washington finished 5th at 285.

The championship for Norton is the sixth in the last seven years.

The Blue Jays had 121 points, Rossville was 2nd with 117, Marysville finished 3rd with 73 points. Smith Center was 4th and Scott Community 5th.

The Hays High Indians sent three wrestlers to the 4A state tournament in Salina; with all three failing to place.

Conrad Vajnar, at 145 pounds finished the state tournament 1-2. At 152 Austin Dale went 2-2 and Trey VanPelt went 0-2 at 220 pounds.
