Kansas Commissioner of Education Dr. Randy Watson will lead a panel discussion, “Career Readiness and Transition to Post-Secondary for Diverse Kansas Youth,” at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 26, in Fort Hays State University’s Rarick Hall, room 201.

The panel will discuss outreach efforts to involve families in the process of discovering students’ interests and goals, how attitudes about students’ heritage influence relationships between schools and families, and how Kansas schools face the challenges of cultural and language barriers.

Other panelists are Hector Villanueva, multicultural recruitment admissions coordinator at FHSU, and Bryan Wilson, transition coordinator for Wichita USD 259.

Dr. Paul Adams, dean of the FHSU College of Education, and Mark Hauptman, assistant superintendent for special services for Hays USD 489, will also speak. Amber White, FHSU Coordinator of Diversity Affairs, will moderate.

The Kansas National Education Association Student Program and the student chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children are co-sponsors. The event is free and open to the public.
