Resurfacing project to begin on U.S. 24 in Graham County

KDOT

The Kansas Department of Transportation expects to begin work in late April or early May on a resurfacing project on U.S. 24 in Graham County starting at the east city limits of Hill City and extending 8 miles east to the K-18 junction.

Project work includes a 2 1/2-inch mill and inlay on the mainline driving lanes, followed by a 1 1/2-inch overlay on the mainline driving lanes and shoulders to improve conditions and extend pavement life. Traffic through the construction zone will be reduced to one lane and controlled by flaggers and a pilot car operation during daylight hours. Minor delays, not exceeding 15 minutes, should be expected. KDOT encourages motorists to slow down, obey the warning signs and “Give ‘em a Brake!” when approaching and driving through work zones. The project is expected to be completed by the end of June, weather permitting.

Venture Corporation of Great Bend is the primary contractor for the project with a total contract cost of approximately $2.2 million. The project is funded by T-WORKS, the transportation program passed by the Kansas legislature in May 2010. Find out more about this and other T-WORKS projects at http://kdotapp.ksdot.org/TWORKS.
