Five Fort Hays State University faculty members have received the gold level President’s Volunteer Service Award for accumulating more than 1,000 hours over a 12-month period as Google trainers.

Faculty who received the award are Dr. Kevin Splichal and Dr. Suzanne Becking, assistant professors of advanced education programs; Dr. Robert Moody, associate professor of advanced education programs; Amie Wright, assistant director of assessment and accreditation for the College of Education; and Erica Fisher, an advisor in the Student Engagement and Advising Center. Former faculty member Dr. Adam Holden also received the award.

The President’s Volunteer Service Award recognizes United States citizens and lawfully admitted, permanent residents of the United States who have achieved the required number of hours of service.

The award is an initiative of the Corporation for National and Community Service, a federal agency that engages more than 5 million Americans in results-driven service each year via 70,000 community and faith-based organizations. The program is administered by Points of Light, the largest organization in the world dedicated to volunteer service. Through affiliates in 250 cities and partnerships with thousands of nonprofits and corporations, Points of Light engages more than 4 million volunteers in 30 million hours of service each year.

Along with the ultimate honor of presidential recognition, recipients will receive a personalized certificate, an official pin, medallion or coin and a congratulatory letter from the president of the United States.
