Ellis baseball’s season ends with loss at state

GREAT BEND – The Ellis baseball team saw their season come to an end Thursday at the 2-1A state tournament in Great Bend falling 5-0 to Medicine Lodge in a game that was delayed for more than three hours because of severe weather.

The two teams battled to a scoreless tie through the first four innings but in the fifth the Indians took advantage of three Ellis errors and two walks scoring four to take a 4-0 lead. Medicine Lodge added a single run in the sixth inning on their way to the 5-0 win.

Ellis was held without a hit in the game and stranded seven runners on base.

Easton Smith allowed five runs on four hits, walked six and struck out four in the loss .

The Railers finished the year 17-5.

Medicine Lodge plays Sacred Heart in the semifinals Friday at the Great Bend Sports Complex.

The Knights upset the No. 1 seed Sedan 3-2 Thursday.
