Strong storm in NW Kansas briefly shuts down I-70

CHEYENNE COUNTY – Strong thunderstorms rolled across portions of northwest Kansas on Thursday bringing heavy rain and high winds.

Fast moving water was crossing roadways in portions of Cheyenne County on Thursday evening.

Despite some threatening clouds, there were no confirmed tornadoes and no damage

reported according to the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Department.

A high wind warning was issued in Thomas County on Thursday. Winds of 80-90 miles per hour were reported, according to Emergency Management officials. Debris and power lines on the highway briefly shut down a section of Interstate 70 in Thomas County. No injuries were reported.
