McPHERSON, Kan. – The Hays Monarchs Junior American Legion committed eight errors Sunday and lost 11-6 to the Butler County Cubs in the semifinals of the McPherson tournament. The Monarchs (8-2) see their four-game win streak snapped.
Butler County scored seven in the first inning. The Monarchs answered with four in the bottom of the first and one in the second but never got any closer.
Cole Zimmerman lasted only an inning, giving up seven runs (two earned) on four hits.
Chase Werth had three hits and Creighton Renz drove in two runs.
The Monarchs are back at home Wednesday for a 6 pm doubleheader with Lincoln.
