FINNEY COUNTY – A southwest Kansas woman died in an accident just after 8a.m. on Wednesday in Finney County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2011 Chrysler passenger car driven by Madison K. Bemis, 22, Lakin, was westbound on U.S. 50 three miles east of Deerfield.

The vehicle ran into the back of trailer being pulled by a 2012 Kenworth semi that was stopped to make left turn onto Coop RoadLocal

Bemis was transported to the hospital in Garden City where she died.

She was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.

The semi driver Jose Martinez-Sotelo, 36, Garden City, was not injured.
