UPDATE: 12:15 p.m.: One dead after chase, shooting north of Hays

UPDATE: 6:20 a.m.
One lane of U.S. 183 is now open. Crews are directing traffic through the area.

ELLIS COUNTY – Law enforcement authorities in Ellis County are investigating an officer-involved shooting north of Hays, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

U.S. 183 is currently closed in both directions from Saline River Road to the Ellis-Rooks County line.

The road will be closed most of Tuesday morning, according to the KHP.
