Sheriff: Crews found body of missing Kansas man

VALLEY CENTER, Kan. (AP) — Authorities say they believe they have found the body of a missing Wichita.

Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff Easter said that authorities “have every indication” law enforcement found the body of 33-year-old Scottie W. Goodpaster Jr. Saturday in rural Harvey County. Goodpaster was listed as missing person about a week ago.

Prosecutors charged five people Thursday in connection with Goodpaster’s disappearance.

Easter says the body was found after authorities received a call telling them a truck authorities had been seeking in the case was seen in rural Harvey County on Sunday. Authorities had information that Goodpaster could have been inside the truck.

He says law enforcement walked the area the caller reported and recovered the body.

Easter says an autopsy is planned in Sedgwick County.

HARVEY COUNTY – Law enforcement authorities in southwest Harvey County on Saturday located a body they believe is that of a missing Kansas man.

The Harvey County Sheriffs office assisted the Sedgwick County Sheriffs Office in the search of the rural area near SW 72nd and Hoover Road, for 33-year-old homicide victim, Scottie Goodpaster Jr., according to Harvey County Sheriff T. Walton.

Authorities believe Goodpaster died following a disturbance November 6, at a home in Valley Center and his body was taken to a rural area in Harvey County.

On Thursday, three men and a woman were charged with first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery and aggravated battery. Two of those defendants were additionally charged with the rape of another victim. A second woman was also charged in a separate related case with kidnapping and aggravated robbery.
