UPDATE: Kansas woman dies after crash into police car

SHAWNEE COUNTY – A Kansas woman died in an accident at 1 a.m. on Sunday in Shawnee County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2007 Hyundai Elantra driven by Tourquoise Moniece Abercrombie, 29, Topeka, was southbound on Webster Street without the headlights on.

The vehicle failed to yield at a stop sign at SW 12th and struck the front passenger side of a Topeka Police Department patrol car in the intersection.

Abercrombie was pronounced dead at the scene.

The officer Laura M. Mayer, 39, was westbound on SW 12th Street patrolling. She was not responding to a call or driving in an emergency status, according to the KHP. She was transported to Stormont Vail for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Abercrombie was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.

SHAWNEE COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities in Shawnee County are investigating a fatal crash involving a police officer.

Just after 1 a.m. on Sunday, police responded to the intersection of SW 12th and SW Webster where a police cruiser and a 4-door passenger car collided, according to a media release.

The driver of the passenger car was pronounced dead at the scene.  The officer was transported to a local hospital with non-life  threatening injuries, according to police.

The name of the driver killed in the crash was not released early Sunday.
