Kansas teen charged in fatal 3-vehicle crash

Fatal August accident in Salina

SALINE COUNTY – Law enforcement authorities in Saline County are investigating a fatal accident and have made an arrest.

Hunter G. Burns, 18, Salina was booked into the Saline County Jail on a warrant early Friday morning on requested charges including involuntary manslaughter in connection with the August accident that took the life of a 53-year-old Dianna Boos, according to Salina Police.

Just after noon on August 22,

Boos was westbound in her 2002 Pontiac G6 on Republic Avenue and appeared to be turning left onto Ohio Street, when a northbound Ford Mustang driven by Burns struck her, according to police.

Witnesses say Burns was driving at a high rate of speed and had run the red light, causing the collision.

The force of the collision sent the two vehicles across the intersection and into the southbound lanes of Ohio.

Burns’ vehicle struck a 2006 Toyota Highlander driven by 41-year-old Dedra Jackson of Salina, and Boos’ vehicle collided with a 2012 Ford Fusion driven by 47-year-old Charles Peters of Lindsborg.

Both Jackson and Peters were stopped at the red light at the time of the crash.

Boos was pinned inside her car and had to be extricated. She was taken by ambulance to Salina Regional Health Center and later flown to Wichita hospital, where she died on September 29th . A passenger in Boos’ car John Newman, 54, Salina, was also transported to the hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released. Peters was also taken by ambulance to the hospital, where he was also treated for minor injuries and later released.

Burns, and a passenger in his car, 15-year-old Jordan Lehman of Salina, and Jackson were not injured.

In addition to the Involuntary manslaughter charges, Burns was booked into jail on charges of endangering a child, racing on highways, fail to yield right of way, unsafe speed for conditions, improper driving on laned road, distributing a depressant, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
