SALINE COUNTY – Law enforcement authorities in Saline County are investigating a fatal accident and have made an arrest.
Hunter G. Burns, 18, Salina was booked into the Saline County Jail on a warrant early Friday morning on requested charges including involuntary manslaughter in connection with the August accident that took the life of a 53-year-old Dianna Boos, according to Salina Police.
Just after noon on August 22,
Boos was westbound in her 2002 Pontiac G6 on Republic Avenue and appeared to be turning left onto Ohio Street, when a northbound Ford Mustang driven by Burns struck her, according to police.
Witnesses say Burns was driving at a high rate of speed and had run the red light, causing the collision.
The force of the collision sent the two vehicles across the intersection and into the southbound lanes of Ohio.
Burns’ vehicle struck a 2006 Toyota Highlander driven by 41-year-old Dedra Jackson of Salina, and Boos’ vehicle collided with a 2012 Ford Fusion driven by 47-year-old Charles Peters of Lindsborg.
Both Jackson and Peters were stopped at the red light at the time of the crash.
Boos was pinned inside her car and had to be extricated. She was taken by ambulance to Salina Regional Health Center and later flown to Wichita hospital, where she died on September 29th . A passenger in Boos’ car John Newman, 54, Salina, was also transported to the hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released. Peters was also taken by ambulance to the hospital, where he was also treated for minor injuries and later released.
Burns, and a passenger in his car, 15-year-old Jordan Lehman of Salina, and Jackson were not injured.
In addition to the Involuntary manslaughter charges, Burns was booked into jail on charges of endangering a child, racing on highways, fail to yield right of way, unsafe speed for conditions, improper driving on laned road, distributing a depressant, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — The Latest on the appeal of a former Missouri city official sentenced to death in Kansas for killing his estranged wife, their two daughters and his wife’s grandmother (all times local):
11:35 a.m.
Attorneys for a former Missouri city official sentenced to death in Kansas for killing his estranged wife, their two daughters and his wife’s grandmother has asked Kansas’ highest court to throw out his conviction.
As a Kansas public defender specializing in death-penalty cases, Meryl Carver-Allmond told the Kansas Supreme Court on Friday there’s no dispute that her client, James Kraig Kahler, carried out the 2009 killings. But she argued that an accumulation of mistakes by the judge and prosecution during Kahler’s trial made those proceedings unfair to her client.
An attorney for the state pressed for Kahler’s conviction and sentence to stand, saying everything the trial judge did was legal.
Authorities say Kahler gunned down the four victims in his estranged wife’s grandmother’s home in Burlingame after losing his job as the water director in Columbia, Missouri, amid a contentious divorce.
Friday’s hearing was the first death penalty case heard by the state Supreme Court since Election Day, when voters opted to retain four justices who were targeted for ouster partly because the court overturned other death sentences.

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama signed U.S. Senator Jerry Moran’s (R-Kan.) Better Online Ticket Sales (BOTS) Act into law on Wednesday. The bipartisan legislation (S. 3183) will end duplicative practices of “ticket bots” that monopolize tickets for entertainment events.
“Before I introduce legislation in the Senate, the most important question I ask myself is whether it would improve the lives of Kansans and Americans,” Sen. Moran said. “The BOTS Act does just that – it levels the online playing field and makes ticket prices fairer so a greater number of everyday folks can go to that big football game, see the musical in town, or attend a concert their son or daughter is longing to see. I appreciate the support of the president and my colleagues in Congress to get this done in a bipartisan manner.”
Wichita’s Intrust Bank Arena General Manager A.J. Boleski added, “This bill is a step closer in helping make the purchase of tickets more fair to all of those fans going to shows. Preventing BOTS allows patrons in Kansas equal access to ticketing inventory. We greatly appreciate the steps taken by Senator Moran to introduce and get this bill passed in the House and the Senate.”
Sen. Moran serves as chairman of the Senate Consumer Protection, Product Safety, Insurance and Data Security Subcommittee. He convened a Consumer Protection Subcommittee hearing in September that included testimony from ‘Hamilton’ producer Jeffrey Seller, Big 12 Conference Commissioner Bob Bowlsby, and representatives from StubHub and Ticketfly.

Lorson was transported to Salina Regional Medical Center.
Schmeck was not injured.
Both drivers were properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the KHP.
