BEDMINSTER, N.J. -Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach met with President-elect Donald Trump and the Vice President-elect on Sunday.

They discussed border security, international terrorism, and reforming federal bureaucracy, according to a media release from the Trump transition team.

Kobach served as an adviser to the Trump campaign on immigration issues.

Before Kobach’s election in 2010, he had a national reputation in conservative circles for helping draft state and local laws aimed at cracking down on illegal immigration. He also has championed tough state voter identification laws.

Kobach was mentioned as a potential pick for U.S. attorney general, but Trump named Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions.

Sunday’s meeting was only one of a string of sessions Trump has been having with prospects for posts in his administration.

Pope Francis extends special permission on abortion

VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis is allowing all priests to absolve the “grave sin” of women who have abortions, extending special permission he had granted them in 2015 for the just-ended Holy Year of Mercy.

Francis wrote in a document made public Monday by the Vatican “there is no sin that God’s mercy cannot reach and wipe away when it finds a repentant heart,” while staunchly reiterating that “abortion is a grave sin, since it puts an end to an innocent life.”
