HAYS, Kan. – The Hays Monarchs scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth on a passed ball and beat Dodge City 4-1 to sweep their doubleheader Thursday at the TMP Sports Complex. They scored 10 runs on 13 hits and won the opener 10-1 and have won three straight.
The Monarchs second run in the three-run fifth came on a wild pitch before Tate Garcia singled. Cole Zimmerman allowed one run on three hits with six strikeouts and five walks in the complete game victory.
Gavin Schumacher had two doubles and went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored in the first game. Tate Garcia allowed one run on three hits and picked up the complete game win.
The Monarchs improve to 4-2. They host Larned in a doubleheader Monday.
