At Monday’s commission meeting, the Ellis County Commission will consider purchasing a new location for the County Health Department.

The Health Department is located at 601 Main and shares the space with K-State Extension offices.

According to his memo to the commissioners, County Administrator Phillip Smith-Hanes said with the merger of the County Health Department and Emergency Medical Services and the Barton and Ellis County Extension Districts, money saved for renovations will not be enough to cover the costs.

So the county plans to scale back renovations at 601 Main and purchase additional property to house the Health Department.

The commission will vote on a proposal to purchase the property at 2507 Canterbury. The property is owned by Hays Medical Center and commonly known as the Post Rock building.

In other business, the commission is set to hear budget requests from 13 outside agencies and reappoint County Appraiser Lisa Ree.

The commission will meet as the Public Building Commission at 5 p.m. with the regular meeting to follow at the County Administrative Center at 718 Main.
