HAYS, Kan. – Chase Werth had three hits including a double with four runs batted in and three runs scored to lead the Hays Monarchs American Legion baseball team to a 14-4, four inning run-rule win over Larned completing a doubleheader sweep Monday night at the TMP Sports Complex. The Monarchs used a six-run sixth inning to blow open a tight first game and won 11-3.
Two of the runs in the big frame in the first game came on errors and another on a bases loaded walk. Tate Garcia allowed one earned run on five hits with four strikeouts and a walk over 4 2/3 innings and gets the win in the first game. Chase Werth recorded the final four outs and got the save.
Carlos Schwindt was the Monarchs fourth pitcher of the night and gets the win in the second contest.
The Monarchs have won five straight and are now 6-2 on the season. They play at a tournament in Dodge City this weekend.
