Sarah Rankin, Hays USD 489, announced Monday her plans to resign from the school board.
Rankin’s family is planning to move to Colorado.
Rankin was appointed by the board four years ago to fill a vacant term. She is serving in the second year of her first elected term. Two and a half years are left on Rankin’s current term.
A final date for her service has not been set yet.
Once Rankin makes her resignation final, the board will likely embark on application process for a new board member, Superintendent John Thissen said. The board will then appoint someone to serve the remainder of Rankin’s term.
Rankin was honored for her years of service during a reception before the school board meeting Monday night.
School board president Lance Bickle also honored Rankin with a district Best of the Best Award.
“[Rankin] truly embodies what a school board member should be,” Bickle said. “She is dedicated and committed and always willing. She is probably one of the most passionate people know. Thank you for your years of serving and all you’ve done to make our district a better place. …”
