Eagles extend winning streak to 11 with sweep of Ellis

ELLIS, Kan. – Grant Coffman had a big night as the Hays Eagles Senior American Legion baseball team ran their winning streak to 11 games with a doubleheader sweep over Ellis, 14-4 and 12-3.

Coffman had two hits including a grand slam and drove in five in the first game then hit another home run and knocked in three in the nightcap.

The Eagles scored 10 runs in the fifth inning in the first game to rally from a 2-1 deficit. Trey Riggs pitched two scoreless innings of relief for the win, striking out six and walking none.

Hays broke a 3-all tie in the second game, scoring three in the third then added two in the fourth and four in the fifth. Cole Murphy pitched two hitless innings of relief for the win as the Eagles improve to 13-2.

Hays will open tournament play in Dodge City Friday against Russell.
